One flight from DJI Dock 4

Scroll to run one sortie: the cover opens, the Matrice 5TD climbs out, its rotating LiDAR scans the site and RTK corrections fix its position. Then it lands, and the cover closes for the battery swap.

※ Unofficial 3D reconstruction. Dock, aircraft and animation follow DJI's published dimensions; the site, the LiDAR points and the telemetry are simulated.

01 ▸ COVER01/06

Cover opens

Both halves of the cover swing 90° out and down. Open, the dock is 1750 mm long; closed, it is a 639 × 640 mm block, 836 mm tall with the wind gauge and brackets.

02 ▸ TAKE-OFF02/06

Take-off

The propellers unfold and spin up, and the aircraft lifts out of the channel between the two humps of the pad. Landing to take-off takes under 45 s, because Dock 4 swaps the battery instead of recharging it.

03 ▸ SENSORS03/06

Sensors on the airframe

Under the nose, the gimbal carries wide, 11× tele and thermal cameras and a laser rangefinder. On top, a rotating LiDAR sits under a clear dome. Around the body: omnidirectional vision, mmWave radar forward, up and down, and a downward 3D infrared sensor.

04 ▸ LIDAR SIM04/06

Rotating LiDAR scan

The LiDAR on top turns through 360° and covers 59° vertically. Dock 4 uses it for obstacle sensing, including thin wires at night, when the vision sensors have no light.

※ The points are a simulation: 32 beams from the dome, six turns, each return coloured by height. Ground, fence, buildings, trees and a power line appear as the beam passes them.

05 ▸ RTK05/06

RTK positioning

The aircraft receives satellite signals and a stream of corrections from a base station fixed at a surveyed point. With both, its position resolves to centimetres instead of metres.

On Dock 4 the RTK base is not on the dock. It sits in the separate DJI O4 Ground Station, on its own pole at least 1.5 m from the dock and powered from it over PoE. The same unit carries the video link and 4G.

06 ▸ LANDING06/06

Back in the dock

The aircraft descends nose to the chevron and the cover closes over it. The 25-second swap follows: the used battery leaves the tail, rides the rotor into a compartment, and a charged one goes back in.
